RAIA NSW Premier's Award 2004 - Apartments Maroubra
A development project that has won several awards including the NSW Royal Australian Institue of Architects Premier's Award. Premier Bob Carr was quoted as stating "The architect has worked a minor miracle. I'm inspired by what has happend in this project".
An existing 1960s three-storey flat building consisting of twelve units is extensively re-modelled and refurbished. The renovations include the conversion of a communal laundry area into two new studio apartments and extended garaging.
Randwick City Council's Urban Design Award 2004 - Multi-unit Housing
The Randwick City Urban Design Awards, held every two years, recognise excellence and inspire better building design by promoting community awareness and acknowledging the architects and designers involved in enhancing Randwick City's built environment.
The Maroubra Apartments by Alec Pappas Architects was the winner in the catagory of Residential - Multi-unit Housing.
Randwick City Council's Urban Design Award 2004 - Commercial/Mixed Use Development
A new landmark building located in the heart of Randwick shopping centre received a 'Commendation' and was included in the NSW Government Department of Planning publication 'Improving Flat Design'.
A four-storey mixed retail residential building comprising of eleven apartments and two shops above two levels of basement car parking. The development provides a high density building that is efficiently serviced by a single central lobby, with good amenity for the occupants in terms of natural light, ventilation and privacy.
